In Fingerprint’s ongoing mission to empower developers to build safer and more seamless online services, we have released a series of updates in the past quarter. These updates include adding features that elevate device intelligence capabilities, harden account login security, and streamline the user experience.

During our recent Product Pulse webinar, we dove deep into the most significant updates, offering insights into how the new and enhanced capabilities can help you protect your applications and your customers from emerging threats. I’ll cover some of the key highlights in this blog post.

Key takeaways

  • iOS SDK enhancements. Enable developers to build safer and more compliant iOS apps.
  • Privacy Manifest files. Ensure full compliance with Apple’s stringent privacy policies by providing data collection and API usage transparency.
  • Android demo app update. Experience how Fingerprint’s SDK works on Android with a hands-on demo app.
  • Improved data and analytics in the Fingerprint dashboard. Get deeper insights into account performance, streamline management tasks, and identify potential threats more effectively.
  • Velocity Signals. Detect complex, time-based fraud scenarios such as account takeover attempts, DoS attacks, and impossible travel events.
  • Management API. Programmatically configure your Fingerprint setup, automate API key management, add filtering rules, and more.

iOS SDK v2.5: Enhanced protection for iOS devices

The latest update to the Fingerprint iOS SDK, version 2.5, introduces powerful new features to bolster security for iOS applications. One of the key enhancements is the ability to detect both rooted and rootless jailbreaking apps, which is increasingly essential as attackers find new ways to compromise devices. This ensures that risky devices can be identified and blocked before unauthorized access occurs.

In addition to security improvements, the Fingerprint iOS SDK now includes Privacy Manifest files. These files are designed to help developers comply with Apple’s privacy requirements by providing full transparency on data collection practices and API usage. This focus allows developers to create accurate privacy labels and maintain trust with users while adhering to Apple’s stringent guidelines.

Together, these updates ensure that the Fingerprint iOS SDK remains at the forefront of security and privacy, enabling developers to build safer and more compliant apps.

Android demo app update: Streamlined testing for developers

Fingerprint has also rolled out an updated version of its Android demo app, which is now a more powerful tool for developers looking to explore the capabilities of the Fingerprint SDK without spending significant development resources. This demo app showcases how Fingerprint’s SDK can be integrated into Android applications, providing a hands-on experience that allows developers to see the platform in action.

This update benefits teams that want to test Fingerprint’s features, such as device identification and fraud detection, in a real-world environment before committing to full integration. By using the demo app, developers can better understand how Fingerprint can enhance their Android applications, making it easier to decide how best to implement these tools.

Improved data and analytics in the Fingerprint dashboard

The Fingerprint dashboard has received significant updates to enhance the overall user experience, improve data visibility, and offer developers more control. These updates provide deeper insights into account performance, streamline management tasks, and help identify potential threats more effectively.

The overview page is now optimized to focus on analytical insights while keeping all relevant account information in place. This information includes an account status bar that displays billing plan details and current usage quotas, along with number metrics that provide key performance indicators (KPIs), such as API call usage, unique visitor counts, and average requests per second. New distribution charts show aggregated stats for entities like top origins, browsers, and countries.

Developers can now customize Suspect Score weights directly from the dashboard. This feature allows teams to adjust the importance of various Smart Signals based on their relevance to specific fraud detection needs. By customizing these weights, developers can fine-tune the suspect scoring system to better align with their unique security requirements.

Velocity Signals: Advanced fraud detection for complex scenarios

Velocity Signals is the newest addition to the Fingerprint Smart Signals suite and introduces a time dimension to fraud detection — developers can now spot patterns over specific time frames. Whether it’s detecting DoS attacks, identifying impossible travel scenarios, or flagging account takeover attempts, these signals give you the tools to respond to suspicious behavior in real time.

Velocity Signals also helps us detect complex fraud scenarios by tracking selected behaviors over time, unlocking new ways to protect your applications. Additionally, a dedicated page for all Smart Signals is now available, allowing developers to analyze visitors’ behavior and detect anomalies in traffic. Each Smart Signal statistic shows a relative change from the previous period, helping track performance over time.

Management API: Streamlining configuration and automation

Managing multiple API keys and environments across various projects can be a challenge. That’s why we introduced the new Management API, which allows you to configure your Fingerprint setup programmatically. The updated dashboard now supports the new Management API as well.

With the new Management API, developers can automate the issuance and revocation of API keys, configure filtering rules, and manage multiple environments through API calls. This streamlines the management of Fingerprint services, particularly for teams handling complex, multi-environment setups.

These updates are just a glimpse into how Fingerprint is revolutionizing device intelligence for developers worldwide. Whether focused on protecting your app from jailbreaking threats, ensuring privacy compliance, or detecting sophisticated fraud patterns, Fingerprint’s latest enhancements provide the necessary capabilities.
