Skipify is a modular identity and checkout platform that connects shoppers, merchants, and financial institutions in real time. By securely recognizing returning users and retrieving payment details instantly, Skipify enables fast, personalized checkouts with minimal friction.
Skipify’s core mission is to reduce friction for returning users — which helps shoppers convert faster, spend more, and come back. The catch? Returning shoppers had to manually enter their email before any personalization or payment details could be retrieved, increasing dropoff risk.
“We saw a huge missed opportunity to improve the experience for returning shoppers who were coming back using the same device and browser,” said Melissa Rowlands, lead engineer at Skipify.
At the same time, their iframe-based products relied on third-party cookies — often blocked by browsers — to recognize returning users, and building scalable device recognition in-house proved too complex. As a result, Skipify was struggling with slower checkout flows, higher cart abandonment, and missed revenue from repeat customers.
“Fingerprint is completely powering Skipify’s device recognition feature. It allows us to unify the returning shopper experience across all of our products — including those third-party iframes,”
— Melissa Rowlands, Lead Software Engineer at Skipify
Skipify considered building device recognition in-house but quickly realized it was too complex to scale. They needed a solution that worked in embedded iframes, didn’t rely on third-party cookies, integrated quickly, and delivered high-confidence identification. Fingerprint checked every box.
Here’s why Fingerprint was the clear choice:
“We had a lot of support from the Fingerprint team, and we were able to get our feature out and working in about a month,” shared Rowlands. “A lot of vendors were really reliant on third-party cookies. Since some of Skipify’s products are third-party iframes, those cookies were constantly getting blocked.[Having Fingerprint] was a huge win for us.”
Skipify uses Fingerprint’s Visitor ID to recognize returning devices during checkout and account login. Once a user authenticates, the Visitor ID is linked to their account — creating a persistent connection between the user and their device.
This allows Skipify to deliver a faster, more seamless interaction when the user returns, such as pre-filling information or streamlining the login process by allowing them to skip additional authentication steps. Even if the user clears cookies or uses incognito mode, Fingerprint helps Skipify recognize them instantly and reduce friction at checkout.
Since implementing Fingerprint, Skipify now recognizes 70% of returning shoppers before they even enter their email — a major win for personalization, speed, and conversion.
With this solution in place, Skipify helped its customer American Signature Furniture improve its checkout experience and reduce fraud. The results were dramatic: a $2 million annual reduction in fraud and an increase in authorization rates from 75% to 98%.
Fingerprint’s persistent visitor ID and confidence score help Skipify recognize legitimate users in real time — even in restricted or embedded environments — without relying on third-party cookies or adding login friction. That combination of usability and security is powering measurable business impact.
